Current Events...the name of this game.
In light of the fact that so many high school students are ill informed or not informed at all about what is happening in their world, I have decided to offer my Globaloria students the option to create a game centered on a topic of interest to them from one of these controversial issues: Health Care, Immigration, Transparency in Government, Oil spills and drills. To serve as a convenient daily prompt for the students, I have created a gadget called Today's News where students can begin their daily search for current information on their topic. As students gather information for their game, they will become more informed about their topic. Thereby, making them better equipped to make decisions; decisions, such as voting, for example. As they create and share their games with their peers, they will spread their knowledge about the issues that are affecting their lives so dramatically. As information is shared, knowledge increases and our students become more productive and effective citizens. Isn't this the goal of any teacher?

Game reviews
Medic Mysteries taught me the most about the learning topic
Disease and Prevention were the social issues and educational topics that the game explored.
You can learn how to avoid and treat different diseases from this game.
this is an educational game that has good graphics and the concept is clear. It is user friendly and works well. I have no suggestions for improvement.
The game that was the LEAST effective was Amazing Math. It explored the educational topic of math by having the player (a rabbit) move through a maze to add numbers that accumulate to 100. The design of the page is ok, but the graphics could be improved, at least be enlarged. The game is user friendly and the intent or goal of the game is clear. The game works well
Suggestions for improvement are to improve the graphics and add some additional flash components to vary the roles of the players.

As part of today's Globaloria training, we are to submit a "rich" post about our favorite Beatle. For more years than I care to admit, I have loved Paul, the "choir boy" Beatle. However, recently I was forced to reconsider my devotion after hearing about Paul's comment on how former President Bush didn't know what a library was...how unjustified and what a rude statement to be made a the White House! He should have kept his day job and left his political commentary at home!
Check it out for yourself
So, in pursuit of a new favorite Beatle, I must consider George Harrison...so many wonderful songs from this talented artist! Check out these videos of his live performances of 'My Sweet Lord" and "Here Comes the Sun"

On a lighter note...some of my other favs...
I simply LOVE ice cream and thought a great way to depict this is with a "tempting" picture and video of how to make your own ice cream. Check it out, if you're up to a challenge!
